It would have been about this time last year that I thought I would expand my business a little, to set up the inclusion of 3D printing capability. It was with the intention that whenever I had a cake order that needed something ‘custom’ for fondant-cutouts, then I would create a 3D printed cutter in order to save time, and upload that STL file to my website to share with other cakemakers/3D print hobbyists.
It was only a month or two after I had my 3D printer setup and had started getting a handle on 3D modelling, my personal world crumbled – my Dad ended up in ICU, and heart-breakingly, passed away :'( I parked the 3D print stuff, thinking I would return to it when the motivation returned.
Well, as it turns out, just like the proverb suggests, necessity is the mother of invention. I wanted a proper bookmark to replace a Woolies receipt that I was using to keep track of which page I was up to while reading a book. I spent a little time last weekend creating some bookmarks to use (2 for me, 2 for my son who is also an avid reader), and have decided they’ll be the first 3D Print STL files that are added to my website for free download.
So, if you have a 3D printer of your own, check out the 3D Prints category of my shop. As I get into creating more bits and pieces, I’ll upload the STL files for download there.
